What To Wear in Fuerteventura: Our Complete Packing Guide

Sharing is caring!

This post talks about what to wear in Fuerteventura & what to pack!

A woman walks down a sunlit pathway lined with palm trees and white buildings with orange roofs, dressed in a colorful skirt and tank top.

If you’re planning a trip to Fuerteventura this year, you’re probably wondering what kind of clothing you should pack in your suitcase.

As we’ve visited Fuerteventura many times now, we’ve got to know what kinds of clothing to bring & what the weather can be like.

Overall, we’ve found that most people’s style on the island is very casual + laid-back. It’s a popular place with surfers & beach lovers, so most people are in what we would call surf-style, relaxed, summery outfits during the day, and into the evening.

However this isn’t to say that you can’t bring your ‘nicer’ outfits for an evening at a fancy restaurant or in your all-inclusive hotel!

In this post we’ll share our helpful tips on what to wear in Fuerteventura, outfit inspiration for both men & women, plus some packing tips that you might find useful too!

*We usually visit Fuerteventura in the winter months, but this post will be helpful no matter what time of year you go.

Weather In Fuerteventura

As one of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura enjoys consistently sunny and warm weather throughout the year. It’s a really popular destination all-year round.

In the peak summer months & even into Autumn, the temperature is usually in the mid-very high 20s during the day, with the hottest month being August. Evenings are warm & balmy. We’ve been in October & it was still really hot!

Is Fuerteventura still warm in Winter?

As you get into the winter months, daytime temperatures generally remain in the low to mid-20s, & will stay like this into the Spring.

We have visited several times in December, & it’s still warm enough to sunbathe & you’ll still see lots of people taking dips in the sea!

We like to walk a lot, so it’s nice that the temperatures in the winter time aren’t uncomfortably high for wandering about.

You can definitely feel the warmth & days can be hot but it’s just a lot more pleasant!

In the winter evenings unlike the summer however, it can get very cool.

So we definitely recommend bringing a light jacket or jumper if you’re planning on visiting at this time.

Although the weather in Fuerteventura is generally sunny & warm most of the year, in winter there it does have the potential to be quite windy & there can be occasional showers.

If you’re lucky it’ll be nice all week, but do check your weather app before you go – as this can influence your packing too.

Tip: One other good thing to know about the weather in Fuerteventura (that we didn’t know initially!) is that the south of the island can often be a couple of degrees warmer than the north. For example Corralejo may be a few degrees cooler than Morro Jable!

How To Get Started Packing For Fuerteventura

How much you pack for Fuerteventura will depend on how long you’re going for & of course, what kind of packer you are lol!

We travel with Jet2, so get 22kg baggage allowance. One suitcase between us is normally enough, then we both bring a backpack each for all our essentials. We usually do 10 days in Fuerteventura.

(Occasionally if I am in an overpacking mood I’ll take advantage of being able to bring a small cabin bag on board too – but I try not to 😆)

SUITCASE

For Christmas last year, my parents treated us to a new ANTLER hard shell suitcase.

We’d never used a hard shell before & we are really impressed by this one. It has great storage inside & we loved the easy locking system.

I had a fabric Ricardo suitcase for years which was also fantastic quality & has lasted forever.

PACKING CUBES

On our most recent trip to Fuerteventura I actually purchased a set of packing cubes from Ale-Hop & omg where have they been all my life!

They’re brilliant just to get everything organized in our case & especially going home I could seperate up things that needed washed etc.

If you want to get some before you go on your trip – I’d suggest getting these similar ones on Amazon which actually look better!

BACKPACK

We prefer to bring a backpack on the plane as it keeps your hands free & you can just shove it under the seat!

If you want to bring your laptop or tablet, this Cabin Max 20L Equator backpack is the ticket. I also love this one as a more ‘stylish’ option – the Max Manhattan. Both of these have a strap to attach to the handle of your suitcase which is super handy if you need a break.

What To Wear On The Plane To Fuerteventura

The flight from UK/Ireland to Fuerteventura is normally about 4-4.5 hours long, so we prefer to be as comfy as possible.

I usually opt for a pair of leggings on my bottom half. My favourites are Nike Zenvy 7/8s & Lululemon Aligns!

I’ll pair this with a pair of trainers or my white vans.

On top I just go for a t-shirt & a hoody or jumper. I like being able to de-layer if I get too warm or flustered.

Andy is much the same, a pair of tracksuit bottoms (these are his favourite as they have zip pockets!), a tee & a jumper. He’ll wear his vans or trainers too.

As long as you’re comfy we think that’s the main thing for flying!

What To Pack In Your Carry-On To Fuerteventura

We tend to put most of our important travel essentials in our carry-on backpacks, along with any items that we wouldn’t want to get lost in a suitcase.

Here’s a quick list of what’s usually in there:

  • Passport
  • Boarding Pass: usually on phone
  • Mobile Phone
  • Wireless Earphones
  • Water Bottle
  • Chargers
  • Laptop or tablet
  • Toiletries in clear bag
  • Sunglasses
  • Packed lunch + snacks
  • Car Keys
  • Jewellery
  • Drone
  • Camera
  • Car Rental Documents

Obviously this is just our own personal list but I always think it’s good to have a checklist then you can add or takeaway what you need (or don’t need!)

What To Wear In Fuerteventura

Okay, let’s get into what you’re really here for. What clothes do you actually pack for your holiday to Fuerteventura?

First I’ll go through what I usually wear, as inspiration for my fellow girlies reading, then I’ll chat about what Andy brings so the guys can get some ideas too. Just bear in mind we aren’t fashionistas or anything like that! 😂

Also a reminder that we normally visit Fuerteventura in December, but have been in October as well.

Our tips on what types of clothing to pack can generally apply to all year round – but we’d just say in the summer time when it’s hotter you’re less likely to want long sleeve items & you may not require a jumper in the evening!☀️

What To Wear In Fuerteventura For Women 👧🏼

SUMMERY DRESSES

I love having a few dresses with me to Fuerteventura as they’re easy to throw on & you don’t have to think too much about your outfit!

You can wear them for a more casual look in the day time, or add accessories etc for a dressier look in the evening.

I bring a variety of short summery/beachy dresses & longer maxi dresses.

When we’re going for dinner in our hotel & I want to dress up a bit, my go -to is a maxi, but I still keep it laid-back with my vans or Birkenstocks! Then I’ll throw some nice jewellery on too. It feels like I’m done up for the evening but still comfortable.

Ps. If you are wearing a floaty dress in the day, just don’t wear it when it’s windy, as I’ve had this issue a few times! A crossover bag can be a godsend in this situation though! 😆

A woman in a lilac dress stands by the rocky shore, gazing at the turquoise sea and clear blue sky, with birds flying overhead.

PLAYSUITS

Along with summery dresses, I don’t think you can go wrong with a playsuit in Fuerteventura.

They’re cool & light for during the day, & again it’s easy to sass them up for evening time.

The only thing I dislike about them is that you need to take them all the way down to go to the bathroom! 😆

A person in a lilac romper stands in front of a mirror, holding a brown bag, with wooden furniture and bright curtains in the background.
A woman stands on a balcony wearing a red floral romper, holding a blue drink, with trees and mountains in the background.
A woman in a white dress walks along a sandy beach, with the ocean waves and rocky cliffs in the background under a blue sky.

T-SHIRTS & TOPS

It can get super hot in Fuerteventura, especially in summer, so it’s handy to have some basic sleeveless tops & vests with you.

I have a few strappy crop tops & vests in a few different colours that I always pack, as they can easily be mixed & matched with different shorts etc.

If you’re wanting to really fit in to the Fuerteventura surf style, get yourself some beachy crop tops or graphic t-shirts!

My favourite brands are Billabong, Roxy & Vans!

In the winter months, I bring a couple of long sleeve tops as well, as they’re nice for the evening time when it’s cool.

A woman in a Roxy shirt and striped shorts stands on rocky cliffs, gazing at a tranquil blue sea and distant cliffs under a clear sky.

A person stands in front of a mirror wearing a white crop top and blue-striped shorts with white sneakers, holding a purse and phone.

LINEN SHIRTS

I’ve gotten really into linen shirts recently, as they’re light enough to throw on over a top & I find them good to stop my shoulders from getting too much sun!

The nice flowing fabric & casual nature of these shirts fits in well in Fuerteventura!

A casually dressed person stands in front of a mirror, wearing a patterned shirt, black tank top, and brown shorts, holding a phone.

SHORTS & SKIRTS

Shorts & skirts are another favourite of mine for Fuerteventura.

I normally bring a pair of denim shorts, gym shorts & then a few floaty, linen style shorts.

They’re easy to wear with a graphic tee or top whilst adventuring round the island.

I’m a big fan of flowy midi-skirts & skorts too!

LINEN TROUSERS

Linen (or light fabric) trousers can be worn anytime of the year in Fuerteventura!

They can be easily matched with plain crop top or vest.

All the trousers below I got from Bershka, so keep an eye out on their website!

SWIMWEAR

One thing you’ll definitely need to pack is your swimwear of course – whether you’re going to just chill by the hotel pool or head to one of Fuerteventura’s sandy beaches.

I recently bought this gorgeous floral swimsuit by The Floric if you’re looking for something cute!

ASOS is probably my go-to for beachwear, as they have lots of different & affordable options for all body shapes.

Personally I’m a big fan of high waist bikini bottoms & a scoop neck top!

HOODY OR JUMPER

It can get really cool & even windy in the evenings in Fuerteventura, so it’s good to have a cosy jumper, zip-up fleece or lightweight jacket with you.

You may not need one in the summer but definitely in the winter, layers are good to have.

A jumper or light jacket will just edge off if you’re walking somewhere to get dinner, or going for a sunset stroll along the beach.

In Corralejo you’ll see plenty of people in hoodies!

I’m a big fan oversized jumper dresses for winter sunrises too.

A person in a cream fleece jacket and brown shorts stands in front of a mirror, showcasing a cozy outfit in a well-lit room.
A woman stands on a cliff overlooking a serene ocean at dusk, wearing a surf-themed sweatshirt and white shorts.

FOOTWEAR

You’ll definitely want to pack a pair of flat sandals – my go- tos are Birkenstock Arizonas as they’re really comfy to walk in.

My other shoe option is a pair of Vans (as you can see from most of the pics lol), I like these white ones as they go with most outfits.

I have started to bring a pair of a trainers aswell which I will wear on the plane – just in case we’re going for a longer walk somewhere or a hike.

I’ve never brought high heels to Fuerteventura, & honestly I never see many people wearing them.

However if you’re going to a fancy restaurant or even for dinner in your hotel, you could opt for a nice pair of summery wedges!

T-SHIRTS

T-shirts are an easy breezy option for Fuerteventura & you can’t go wrong with a cool graphic t-shirt – think Billabong, Vans etc!

If that’s not your thing, Andy likes to bring a few sports style polo tops as well, & a few dressier t-shirts for dinner.

SHORT-SLEEVE SHIRTS

If you’re staying in an all-inclusive resort, you might want to bring a few short-sleeved shirts with you for the evening time.

Make sure to choose ones that are made from linen or light fabric.

Then pop on your shorts or chinos!

SHORTS

You’ll definitely want to bring shorts on your trip to Fuerteventura -they’re probably the most comfortable option for wearing whilst exploring the island.

Andy normally brings a few swim/sports style shorts & a couple of ‘smart-casual’ style ones which he can wear both day and night.

A couple pose for a mirror selfie. The woman wears a patterned shirt and brown shorts, holding sunglasses and a handbag. The man stands beside her.

LIGHTWEIGHT CHINOS/TROUSERS

If you’re going to Fuerteventura in the height of the summer, chinos may be the last thing on your mind.

However they’re a good option to have, especially in those winter months when you’re sitting outside having a drink.

A person walks down a rocky path towards the beach at sunset, with gentle waves and silhouettes of people in the distance.
A man sits on a white chair, focused on his phone, in a modern, softly lit setting with wooden floors and bright decor.

FOOTWEAR

Comfortable shoes are must for Fuerteventura!

Andy also has Birkenstock Arizonas which he is obsessed with.

He also brings vans & trainers. If you’re a beach lover then don’t forget your flip flops!

We don’t think there’s any need to bring ‘dress’ shoes as Fuerteventura style is pretty chill.

Another option for the evening could be some summery loafers!

A man in shorts and a t-shirt stands on rocky cliffs, capturing the ocean waves with his phone on a hazy day.

JUMPER

A jumper, hoody or light jacket is a must-have for the winter evenings in Fuerteventura!

Just make sure you bring something that can match in with everything.

Andy just brings the one he wears on the plane!

Other Handy Bits To Pack For Fuerteventura

  • Crossbody bag
  • Hats or Caps
  • Beach towel (if your hotel isn’t providing them)
  • Travel adaptors
  • Cameras + drone

What You Probably Don’t Need To Bring To Fuerteventura

  • Hairdryer: most of the larger hotels will have a hairdryer attached to the wall in the bathroom. If you’re staying in a self-catering apartment, they usually have a hairdryer available too. Obviously just check before you go if your accommodation has one! Then you can leave yours at home!
  • Heavy coats, scarves or woolly hats: yes it get’s cooler in the evenings & there can be a breeze occasionally, but a light jacket or jumper is usually enough to take the edge off!
  • High-heels: honestly, I cannot recall ever seeing anyone in high heel shoes at night in Fuerteventura. Most people stick to dressy sandals, flats, trainers! However if you were going for a fancy dinner somewhere you could bring a pair of summery wedges!

The good thing about Fuerteventura is that if you forget anything there are plenty of shops. There’s even a shopping centre in Puerto del Rosario with Bershka, Stadivarius, Zara & most of the big names.
