Duncan’s Park, Lisburn: All You Need To Know (2024)

Duncan’s Park (locally known as Duncan’s Dam) is a small park hidden away in the suburbs of Lisburn City.

Although it’s not the biggest park in the world, it’s the perfect spot for a short walk with your dog, a quick stroll with your friend or a solo-saunter!

In this post we’ll share with you some handy information on Duncan’s Park in Lisburn, which will hopefully encourage you to check it out the next time you fancy getting out for a weekend walk!

How To Get To Duncan’s Park

Duncan’s Park is located on the Stockdam Road in Lisburn. You would probably miss it if you didn’t know it was there!

To get there from Belfast direction, turn off the Belsize Road onto Kirkwoods Road. This will turn into Duncan’s Road as you pass the barracks. You’ll see a housing estate on your right, then turn down Stockdam Road on the right (a small tree-lined road) then left into the car park.

Is There Free Parking At Duncan’s Park?

Yes, you’ll find a small car park at the entrance to Duncan’s Park on the Stockdam Road.

It’s free of charge & there is no admission fee to this park which is great!

During the winter months it’s fairly quiet & we’ve rarely seen the car park full but do be aware that during the summer it could be a bit busier!

Is Duncan’s Park Open All Year Round?

Duncan’s Park is open all year-round, so you can visit anytime!

Do note however that the car park does have certain opening & closing times that vary throughout the year.

Opening Hours 2024: 1st April – 30th Sept: 9am-9pm & 1st Oct-31st March: 9am-5pm

The pedestrian entrance to the park is always open 24/7 so if you are unsure then you could always park outside the gates or on Beechdene Drive.

You’ll see this map when you enter the park, showing you the trails, woodland areas & the small lake/dam area.

Like we mentioned in the intro, it’s not a huge place – but on warm day it’s a lovely place for a quick stroll with a friend or to get your dog their daily walk!

We usually walk round it twice – it probably takes around 15-20 mins to walk round the whole park once!

Is Duncan’s Park Dog-Friendly?

YES! You can bring your dog to Duncan’s Park.

Although it’s not a huge park by any means, it is still enjoyable for a short walk with your fur-child!

Do watch out for the swans & ducks around the water – the swans don’t like to be barked at lol!

Also bear in mind there are a lot of dogs off-leash here & it’s quite a narrow-ish path all the way around.

However we often bring Luka here on the lead & he isn’t too bothered by other dogs going past!

  • Percivals – 5 min drive, lovely for a coffee & small bite to eat!

How far is Duncan’s Park from Lisburn City Centre?

Duncan’s Park is around a 3 minute drive from the centre of Lisburn, or you can walk into the city in around 25 minutes (or less depending how fast you walk!)

Are there toilet facilities at Duncan’s Park?

No, there are currently no toilets in the park.

Can I bring my dog to Duncan’s Park?

Yes! Duncan’s Park is dog-friendly. Just make sure to keep your dog on a leash as there are swans & ducks roaming about the lake area!
